Selective Oxidation of Xylenes to Toluic Acids
Authors
Abstract:
A mixture of manganese, cobalt and lead para-amino benzoates supported on silica gel is used to catalyze oxidation of xylenes to toluic acids in presence of oxygen or air. Reactions are clean and catalysts can be recovered easily and reused.

full textMicrobial hydrocarbon co-oxidation. I. Oxidation of mono- and dicyclic hydrocarbons by soil isolates of the genus Nocardia.
Nocardia cultures, isolated from soil by use of n-paraffins as the sole carbon source, have been shown to bring about significant oxidation of several methyl-substituted mono- and dicyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Oxygen uptake by washed cell suspensions was not a reliable indicator of oxidation. Under co-oxidation conditions in shaken flasks, o- and p-xylenes were oxidized to their respective mo...
full textThe Kinetics of Tripropylammonium Fluorochromate Oxidation of Mandelic Acids
The oxidation of Mandelic Acids (MA) to the corresponding oxoacids with tripropylammonium fluorochromate (TriPAFC) in aqueous acetic acid has been studied. The reaction is first order with respect to [TriPAFC], [MA] and [H+]. The oxidation of α-deuteriomandelic acid shows the presence of a primary ki...

In the course of our continuing study on the positional effect of five-membered monoheteroaromatic compounds, we were in need of 3-thiophenecarboxylic acid (2a). Although 2a is commercially available, the price is about 70 times more expensive than the 2-isomer (4a). Therefore, ...
full textSelective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides by a vanadium-based catalyst using 30% hydrogen peroxide
The vanadium-based catalyst, acts as a homogeneous catalyst for the selective oxidation of various kinds of sulfides with 30% aqueous H2O2. Vanadium-based catalyst was successfully used as the oxygen source for the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides for the first time. The sulfoxides were obtained in a good way to high yields without any detectable over-oxidation to sulfones under normal condi...
